Lovely Blue Table

The other day in this post about redoing my chairs, I mentioned how I got the set of 4 chairs and a table for $3.  Well, after one botched attempt at refinishing her, here she is in all her new found blue glory.
I love the way the whole thing turned out.  I love, love, the blue.  I think it brings a fun pop of color to the room and goes really well with creamy white chairs.  LOVE the whole look!!
This is a picture that shows better the true color of the table.  Now I have to finish the other 2 chairs and repaint the chairs that you can see here across the table.  I am going to make them a creamy white too.  Lovely!!
Thanks for coming to share in my excitement.

Halloween mantle decor

I am very much lacking in Halloween, well or any holiday decorations.  I am hoping to remedy that in the coming years.  At this point though, I have to make do with what I've got.  So today I thought of the whole display-bare-branches thing.  I was very excited about that since it's nice and FREE!!  We also have been having a crazy wind storm today so I just happened to have one conveniently blow down right in front of my van, as if asking me to use it.  I obliged.  Here she is in all her beauty.  I had the ghosties laying around so I added them to the ensemble and I love how it looks.
I was going to put the ghosties up outside in our tree, but with the way the wind in blowing so hard, I am afraid they wouldn't make it overnight, let alone till Halloween.  I think they're happier here anyway.
What do you think?  What Halloween decor do you have up this year?

Awesome Thrifting Finds

I have needed sweaters for a while since we have moved to a cold climate from a warm one.  It is much colder than my flip flops and short sleeve kind of wardrobe.  So the other day my husband and I were out driving around and decided to hit some thrift stores for a quick browse.  I ended up finding these lovelies.
I was thrilled because not only are they cute, but they ended up being $9 total.  Pretty inexpensive way to bolster my lacking wardrobe.  Yeah for thrifting!

What's Cookin' Wednesday #17

I have been trying to find new recipes to make since mine are getting to that blah stage.  I  know that once we switch it up a little, the old ones will be great again, but such is life I guess.  I'm sure you know the feeling.  Anyway, this is one of the recipes that I found to try out.
Orzo with Oriental Vegetables (from the Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook)
1 c. orzo
1/2 c. chicken broth or water
2 T. soy sauce
1 T. cornstarch
1/4 t. grated gingerroot or dash of ground ginger
1 6oz. package of frozen peas, thawed
1/2 of 8oz. can sliced water chestnuts, drained
1 4oz. can sliced mushrooms, drained

Cook the orzo according to package directions.  Meanwhile, in a large saucepan add chicken broth, soy sauce, cornstarch and ginger.  Cook and stir until bubbly and somewhat thickened.  Stir in the rest of the ingredients.  I deviated a little here.  Instead of all those ingredients, I just used a bag of frozen asian stir fry veggies.  It was a pretty easy way to go.  Just add that into the sauce and cook till they are hot.  Add the sauce to the orzo and mix well.  You now have yourself an easy dinner.  If you want to, this would be an easy one to add some chicken or beef to as well.  Here's another look:
Enjoy!

Chair Redo

We moved into our house a year ago and with us came our tiny table.  We used it for a little while, but while out garage saleing one day, I happened upon a table and chair set that the man basically gave me.  I ended up paying $3 for the entire set of a table and 4 chairs.  Pretty sweet deal!!  So this happened over a year ago and I have now finally gotten 2 of the chairs refinished.  Actually, I have another one that I redid, but I am going to do it over again to match these beauties.
I wanted them to be a creamy white like you see and I LOVE the way they turned out.  I have never really redone any type of furniture, but I was excited to give this a shot.  For $3, if it didn't turn out, no big deal.  This has been one of my learning projects, and I did learn a lot.
Anyway, here are some more shots.  I covered the seat in drop cloth.  This is just a temporary cover until I find a deal on something that I want to keep around longer.  I did Scotch Guard it though prior to covering the chair which came in handy last night when I dropped my tomato based sauce on the cover.  It came right out though.
So these are the chairs.  YEAH!!  I am so excited to show you the table.  I am loving the way it's looking right now.  Hopefully I will have that done very soon to show you guys.
